Sometimes, Everything Gets in The Way!

Okay, so what does a back injury, Las Vegas, the weather, my job search, a bad hot water heater, my family and the cosmos all have in common?

They have all conspired against me this past week to prevent me from getting in my training.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not trying to make excuses, it was just a bad week and I really wasn’t able to get any training in. Except for my Tri-Fit class and I was worried about that.

Okay, okay, I can probably let the cosmos off the hook. I’ll admit that that one was a bit over board, but I can explain the rest.

Let me start out at the beginning of the list. I got a stitch in my back 2 weeks that this past week turned into much more and has now started to take my breath away at times. I’m not sure what caused, but I can usually get rid of it by having Shelly step on my back and everything is good again. Well not this time, this time I need a little more than that.

And that is how Las Vegas gets on the list. I gave my chiropractor a call on Tuesday hoping he could get me that day or the next and then I’d be right back at it. Turns out he is on vacation in Vegas and didn’t get back until tonight. So I’ve had to just deal with this and I’ll be getting in to see him as soon as I can tomorrow.

The one day that my back did feel pretty good and I had some time that I could have gotten out and done anything the weather turned on my. We had one of those typical spring down pours that prevents you from doing anything outside.

The only other change that I could have gotten out there and done anything this past I got wrapped up in my job search. I ended up finding a couple of great positions that I wanted to make sure I got myself submitted for right away. So I focused on that instead of training.

I woke up yesterday to some great weather and a back that wasn’t bothering me too much. It was a bit windy, but not enough to stop me from wanting to a brick of a nice long ride and run. And that was exactly what I was going to do until I went into the basement and found water all over the laundry room. Turns out my water heater decided that it was time to throw in the towel and start leaking. We once again had hot running water by 8:30 that night. There went my brick and I was beat.

I slept in a bit this morning and early this afternoon we had a family birthday party to go to. And since the family part of that were my Dad and Shelly, it would have been pretty hard to miss that party.

But enough of the excuses or letting anything get in the way of training from this point on. According to the nifty little count down widget I added; as of right now I have 20 days left to train.

And the week before the race is a taper week, so even less than that of serious hard training.

I may need to step it up to 2 a days here for a little while.

Later,
John W.
