The Bike is Set!

And WOW what a difference it all makes. Okay, okay I’m comparing it to the Grocery Getter I know.

But we are talking about going from the family station wagon to a high end sports car here!

The number one biggest difference / advantage that I can point out (and a very important reason to get a better bike if you are planning on doing this) is the minimal amount of effort that is required to move that thing along. It takes nothing to get it up to a very fast speed.

Shelly and I went out for our first ride of the season together this weekend and we put 16 miles on. Now granted, we were pushing it all that hard (it was just a starter training ride), but I could tell how much easier it was when we got done.

And we the ride on Friday after our Tri-Fit class which is usually a day off or at least a light training day for us.

There are a few places along the route that on the Grocery Getter I would usually kick it a bit to get some speed up. There is no need for me to do that on this thing. All I had to do was coast in the one area and I was up to 20 plus mph in no time. It is a very curvy downhill run on the bike path that almost always has on-coming traffic. That speed seemed like it was more than enough for me.

After the ride we went for a short run and then switched over to our old bikes to get some dinner from the grocery store. Yup, I rode the Grocery Getter to actually get grocery.

Even though I’ve already ridden that thing a few times this season, it felt very strange trying to ride it again.

Now I have to get back to training on my running. The clock is ticking and I need to get up to that 6 mile mark.

Later,
John W.
