There was no post last week because Shelly and I were in Philly for her Olympic distance triathlon. It was a busy, action packed, but great weekend with the highlight coming as Shelly crossed the finished line!
Of course all the traveling and race event activities meant that I didn’t get quite as much training as I would have liked to during that time span.
And upon my return the reality of everything quickly set in as I looked at the calendar and realized that I the race was only 3 weeks away.
That meant that I only had 2 weeks of hard training left.
Since the week before a race is a taper week, I needed to get all of my last minute training issues out of the way either this past week or next week.
So Tuesday I hit the pool, my thinking was I could get 2 good training sessions in both this week and next. Not so much!
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the WAC, but someone there made a huge mistake when they decided that starting this Sunday (today), the lap pool will be closed. For the next week there is no lap pool because of annual cleaning and maintenance. Seriously?!
I don’t know who’s idea that was, but I know they didn’t check with anyone that has any idea why the members use the lap pool. Almost all of the people that I talk to during lunch or in the evenings that are at the pool are getting ready for the Pewaukee Tri.
Now I know that you are never going to make everyone happy. But come on, a quick check with a few people would have let them know to wait just one more week before doing that.
Although at this point the swim portion of the event is in jeopardy right now. Due to all the heavy rain and flooding that we got earlier in the month the beach is closed due to poor water quality.
At this point it is day by day, so we’ll have to wait and see. But my first triathlon may end up being a duathlon with the swim portion being replaced by a run. Man I really don’t want to run that much.
Oh well, no matter what the training continues.
Later,
John W.
