The Blarney Run 5k

March 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Yup, Shelly and I found a 5k to run in yesterday. And I’m still feeling it a bit.

But first, let me just say that I’ll try to be a little more consistent with my posts. I’m shocked, shocked I tell you, to find out that a few people are actually reading this.

So we found the Blarney Run 5k to participate in right here in Tosa. In honor of St Patrick’s, go figure. But this was a bit of a tough one; it took place in Hanson Park and on Swan Boulevard, so you were either running up hill or down hill…

but uphill a lot more, with a very healthy killer uphill climb to the finish line!

But despite the hills, or maybe because of them, I was actually still able to shave a minute off my previous time. Now a minute may not seem like a lot to some, but lugging around my big… body and pushing it up those hills, I was pretty happy with that. Heck, I would have been happy with (and was expecting) adding 5 minutes on to my last time.

Now for the really shocking part about the whole run.

Shelly and I were actually thinking about ridding our bikes to and from the park. It would have only been around a 5 mile ride each way, but this lands squarely into that “What the heck is happening to me” category.

If you would have told me that I was going to be doing/thinking about any of this stuff a year ago I would have laughed so hard it would have hurt!

We ended deciding against the bike ride only because it was a lot colder than we were hoping for. And Shelly doesn’t have some of the cold weather gear that she would have needed. But it almost happened.

Later,

John W.
