Or in This Case Snow, Make Snow Cones!

Okay, maybe not, but at least use it the best you can. And that’s exactly what I had to do the last 2 weeks. We got well over 10 inches of snow last week and around another 50 inches (really only another 6) this past week.

We have been on one of those every other day or so type schedules with the snow fall. So that has managed to eat up almost all of my gym time.

Mind you this is nothing new, we have been going through this on and off since December which has forced me to come up with some creative ways to get my workouts done.

One day out of frustration I decided to put my heart rate monitor on before I went out to snow blow. I found out that in 35 minutes of just using the snow blower I was burning up as many calories as I do on my walks everyday.

Now throw into the mix the fact that my snow blower died last week. Yes! Right before we got the 10 inches! Well that turned 35 minutes of snow blowing into 60 minutes of shoveling.

The positive side of that is it burns a lot of calories!
The negative side of that is it burns a lot of time!

So the only times I got to the gym over the last 2 weeks has been for my Tri-Fit class. Let me tell you, that snow shoveling doesn’t do a lot overall for your conditioning in the other areas. So the workouts were a bit brutal.

Add in to all this the fact that I started a new job last week and my time has gotten even more scarce. I’m hoping that things settle down enough now at work so that I can get some lunch time work outs in starting this week. We’ll see how that goes.

As for last week’s post, that obviously didn’t happen. I blame Shelly for that, at least until she reads this. We were working one of the concession stands at the Admirals hockey game so that we could raise money for her Team in Training stuff.

Very hard work, and we’re not sure what the final amount will be yet. I’m not sure if it was worth all the work, but I will tell you one thing. The next time I know that one of those stands is being worked be volunteers I will treat them a whole lot nicer!

Later,
John W.
