Maybe, but a definite confidence builder!
A funny thing happened at the gym this past week. As I was transitioning from my run to my swim workout I got in a conversation with the guy a couple of lockers away from me. I had my stuff spread out before he walked in since I was the only one in the area, so I needed to make room for him.
It’s no secret that I’m a big guy and still out of shape. And this guy was the picture perfect workout dude; V shaped torso with the 6 pack abs. Not that I don’t have the 6 pack abs, I’m just keeping them in a soft sided cooler!
As we were talking the Tri-fit class came up and how space is even worse right after work.
Well that got him to ask me more about the class and what it was about. As we were talking about my goal to do a triathlon and all the training he kept asking me more questions. He had heard of triathlons in the past but never paid that much attention to the details.
We actually talked for quite a while about all the aspects of the event. On more than occasion as I was explaining things to him he said “That’s nuts, I can’t believe you do that.”
Keep in mind that this is a guy is in better shape than I have ever been. In my entire life!
In the end as we were both headed out of the locker room he wished me good luck in the event and said next time he sees me he’ll want an update on how things are going.
So, whether or not there was any mutual respect I can’t say for certain. But the fact that this guy thought that my training was intense was pretty interesting and quite a confidence builder.
Later,
